Spring is here! (almost)

Phew, this school year is flying! I know it doesn't feel like it to you guys, but summer is right around the corner and tomorrow is officially spring!! Free ice day at Rita's! Woo!

Also, spring means cherry blossoms. This Saturday is the second annual cherry blossom anime marathon featuring all six episodes of FLCL. There will be lots of Japanese snacks to be had, courtesy of the Friends of the Library. Be sure to stop in and hang out with us!

Next month is spring break for you guys and also happens to be National Library Week. We're going to have lots going on here at the Barnegat branch. On April 14th, in celebration of the release of Perfect Fifths, the last book in Megan McCafferty's Jessica Darling series, we will be making Marcus Flutie shirts. Be sure to stop by and make one for yourself! I will be providing white t-shirts; if you want another color, please bring your own.

We will also be having an open afternoon of gaming on April 17th. Just drop in and play!

The time is upon us!!

Woo! This friday is the Crispin Freeman event! Unfortunately, if you haven't registered it's a little late now- this party is packed and even has a waiting list! I'm happy to say that most of the anime club will make it and some members will even be performing (you guys rock!). I will be there in the full Mikuru Asahina battle waitress outfit, be sure to stop by and say hi!

Upcoming in Barnegat-
Next week is Origami Valentine's. I've got the paper hearts and boxes down, now if only I can figure out the rose by then. If you can do it, please come and teach me!
Also, we're just over a month away from the anime marathon. Geez, you guys are almost done with school for this year already! Time really flies.

A new way to keep up to date!

The Barnegat Branch is now on Twitter! You can sign up to recieve update by e-mail or even via text message on your cell. I promise, you will only get updates to teen programs at barnegat, no spam or junk or excessiveness! Make sure that you have a text plan if you sign up for updates- I don't want anyone running up a bill for no reason!

In any case, you can sign up to follow it here: http://twitter.com/samthelibrarian

Watch President Obama's Inauguration

On January 20th, we will be showing President Obama's inauguration ceremony in the meeting room on the big screen from 10:30 am to 1:30 pm. We will also be providing coffee and some light snacks.

Super new- online teen book reviews

As many of my faithful followers know, you can write book reviews for volunteer hours at the library (credit is given for both reading and writing the review- see Ginny for details). These reviews are typically stored in the binder in the teen zone which can be so hard to look through! Well, they're still there, but now they're also available online and sorted! Unfortunately I can't process the backlog from the last so many years, so instead it is all reviews from January 2009 onwards. The page is http:///sites.google.com/site/barnegatreviews

Catch up time!

The holidays have come and gone! School is halfway done already, and it's time for us to look forward to spring! In the meantime, we have so, so , SO much going on around here, I can't even keep track of it.

January is the Lunar New Year and we will be celebrating in style. Anime Club will be doing it their own way on the 7th with Chinese snacks, and on the 26th we will be making lucky fortune cookie ornaments. Teen Advisory Board t-shirts should be in this month, so make sure you come to TAB on the 21st!!!

February is also shaping up to be busy, busy, busy! Big, huge, monster announcement for my anime fans- Crispin Freeman (think Itachi, Balmong, and Alucard!) will be in Toms River on February 6th in the evening. You need to sign up in order to meet him, and space is most definitely limited- register now! http://engagedpatrons.org/EventsRegister.cfm?SiteID=2161&BranchID=770&Branch=Toms%20River%20%20Branch&EventID=30328

It is so cold...

Man, it's freezing today. But it's supposed to be 60 on Wednesday! Crazy stuff. I couldn't believe that it snowed, even a little, over the weekend.

Anyway, the holidays are officially upon us. For those of you who can't afford to shop much (I know I can't!) we will be making duct tape wallets on December 23rd. I have green, blue, yellow, orange, silver, and clear. Hopefully your project will come out better than mine!

By special request, for anime club in January we will be having a Chinese New Year celebration. I'm not sure what yet, but stay tuned.

Also, starting in January I will be having homework help on Thursday afternoons in the teen zone. This will take place any time school is in session and I don't have a schedule conflict with some silly meeting. The dates for January are 1/8, 1/15, and 1/29.

As a reminder to all my Got Fines? participants- you have one week left to try and work some off!!!
